Name the shape carefully
A full arch with straight legs, half circle, eyebrow, segmental arch, rake top, triangle, trapezoid, circle, and oval use different geometry. A label helps discussion but does not replace dimensions or a template.
Record control points
Capture overall width and height, spring line, leg heights, rise, radius or chord, center, each angled edge, mullions, frame depth, trim, and square. Complex or irregular openings may require an approved physical or digital template.
Operability may be partial
Some shaped louver sections are fixed while rectangular lower panels open. Other designs use shaped solid panels or limited louver movement. Decide which access, cleaning, light, and privacy functions must remain operable.
Protect the template chain
Label the opening, orientation, face, room, scale, control dimensions, and template material. Verify that scanning, shipping, or tracing will not distort the shape before production uses it.
Turn the guide into a complete opening schedule.
Keep every finished width and height, mounting surface, jamb depth, panel arrangement, material, finish, hardware part, photo, and delivery note connected to the same opening ID.

Can every shaped shutter open normally?
No. Shape, panel seams, louver geometry, frame, hinges, weight, and clearance can limit movement. The operable and fixed sections must be confirmed for the exact opening.
