Measure the glass and the hardware

Record door slab size, glass dimensions and molding, handle and deadbolt projection, backset, hinges, astragal, inactive leaf hardware, floor clearance, trim, and the path of both doors.

Choose the mounting approach

Door-mounted frames move with each leaf and can use handle-side cutouts. Surround frames or wider treatments may interact differently with paired doors. Weight, fastening, vibration, and closure details need review.

Protect access to locks

A cutout should provide natural hand clearance without creating weak rails or awkward louver sections. Confirm access from the correct side and check whether the door handle turns, lifts, or pulls through a longer arc.

Test the complete movement

The shutter panels should close and latch while the French doors open, close, lock, and meet normally. Check floor rugs, door stops, walls, nearby windows, furniture, vents, and children or pet access.
