Care and maintenance for architectural windows and doors

Record the mounting surface, window clearance, guide-rail position and access for service. For motorized shades, include the power supply and control preference in the installation plan.

Keep tracks and drainage paths clear

Lift out loose debris, then vacuum the track. Wipe it with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner compatible with the finish. Remove cleaning residue and dry the track. Keep drainage openings clear so water can leave the sill.

Inspect seals and operation

Check weather stripping and glazing gaskets for damage, dirt or displacement. Review the perimeter sealant during routine maintenance. If a panel binds or becomes difficult to move, arrange service rather than forcing the handle or panel. Use only the lubricant specified for the selected hardware.

Protect the finish and glass

Use gentle cleaning methods suited to the frame finish and glazing. Avoid pressure washing and abrasive tools. Clean glass when it is out of direct sun, and remove cleaning residue before it dries. Coated or specialty glass may require a different cleaning method.
